One Day to Go!
After months of planning, preparation, and hard work, we are just one day away from the 2012 Hammer with a Heart event. Through the commitment and dedication of many people and businesses in the Madison community, we have been able to take on a very aggressive goal for the remodel of the residence of Zanne Gray. Now it is time to get our hands dirty and transform Zanne’s home into a comfortable living environment where she can utilize her home in a way that she could not even imagine before. Here is what we hope to accomplish on Saturday:
Interior Work
- Installing kitchen cabinets and countertops
- Installing the toilet and vanity top in the bathroom
- Installing grab bars and the shower curtain rod in the bathroom
- Building a bench to go alongside the bathtub
- Setting the sinks in the bathroom and kitchen
- Installing smoke and carbon monoxide detectors on the main floor
- Installing a new light fixture in the downstairs bathroom
- Replacing the leaky faucet in the downstairs utility sink
- Removing the doors and shelves around the electrical panel in the basement
- Cleaning all existing bathrooms along with the rest of the house
Exterior Work
- Removing brush and debris from the yard
- Cutting up and removing downed trees and branches
- Trimming bushes, pruning trees, and raking leaves
- Repairing damages to the soffit and siding
- Repairing and installing new railings on the back porch
- Installing a new screen on the back porch
- Making the back door to the basement wheelchair accessible
- Adding new railings to the front entrance ramp
- Fastening the metal transition to the base of the ramp
- Landscaping in front of the house
Thank you in advance to all of our sponsors, donors, volunteers, and everyone else who has been involved in this process so far. A reminder for those of you joining us tomorrow, the day’s work will begin at 8 a.m. and go until mid-afternoon at 5437 Esther Beach Road in Madison (rain or shine). We are looking forward to tomorrow’s action! And remember to check the blog after May 5 as well for more photos, links, and updates following Hammer Day.
