The Big Day

Wow!  What a day!  Yesterday was one of the largest and most ambitious Hammer with a Heart events on record.  Working from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., we had close to 50 workers and volunteers helping out at the site.  The remodeling efforts inside focused on the new bathroom and kitchen, and both rooms are nearly complete as they required a complete renovation from top to bottom.  The exterior of the house was vastly improved in its appeal, functionality, and cleanliness by clearing the back yard of ground debris and reshaping the front yard through some intensive landscaping.

What made all the work worthwhile was seeing Zanne enjoy her new home and hearing the appreciation and gratefulness in her voice as her emotions poured out while thanking the volunteers.  The 2012 Hammer with a Heart Day was a big success thanks to all the hard work put in on Saturday and in the few months leading up to this point.  Thanks also to Metcalfe’s Market, Pepsi, and Scott’s Pastry Shoppe for providing food and drinks for the volunteer crews.

Keep following the blog to see more photos from this year’s Hammer with a Heart project as well as further updates on Zanne and her house as it gets some final touch ups soon.  Thanks again to everyone who was involved.  We could not have done this for Zanne without your help!

  1. Hammer with a Heart…What a wonderful gift you have given to Zanne. When I talk with her on the phone, her voice has new energy. She lives with hope again. The home modifications you have made will improve her safety, independence, and freedom. THANK YOU for helping my friend!!!

    • Thanks for the comment Shelley! We were happy to help Zanne, as she has been one of the most deserving and appreciative homeowners involved in this program since the beginning. I hope the home improvements to Zanne’s home continue to transfer over into her positive attitude toward life.
